SaxFDM Focus Project: Publication Service for Scientific Data Models and Vocabularies

Working with digital data in the humanities can take many forms. However, one common aspect is that some form of data modeling comes first. The question of how these data models are documented, published, and made reusable often plays a minor role, which means much of the conceptual work behind the models remains difficult to find and understand.

The goal of this project is to create a publication and documentation service that allows different data models (RDF-based vocabularies, ontologies, XML schemas, etc.) to be documented and published in a standardized way. This approach represents a novelty compared to existing services. Thanks to the more dynamic approach of this project, it will be possible to present and access the diverse data models created in various research projects in a clear and organized manner. The use of data models will follow the FAIR principles for research data: Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable.

The project "Publication Service for Scientific Data Models and Vocabularies" (PUDEL) is a focus project of SaxFDM, the Saxon state initiative for research data management. SaxFDM aims to network, coordinate, and foster cooperation among Saxon research institutions and universities on the topic of research data management.

To define a standardized way of providing, presenting, and documenting data models, the project seeks exchange with partners within SaxFDM as well as at the national level with consortia of the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI), aiming to establish a long-term connection to national infrastructure efforts.

Project duration: 1 January 2022 – 31 March 2023

The project is co-financed by tax revenue based on the budget approved by the Saxon State Parliament.
